Going over and beyond

More than just professional, Audrey Tooze of AWT Accountants provides a service that goes over and beyond what anyone would expect from their accountant. She genuinely cares about her clients and goes to great lengths to look after them. I couldn’t recommend AWT and its principal, Audrey Tooze more highly.

Awesome team at AWT Accountants!! Thank you very much Audrey and her team, especially Dena, who took us on in an emergency situation and sorted out all our personal and small business issues. Bookeeping (Xero, MYOB)

The main three accounting software packages available for small to medium size businesses are Xero, MYOB and Reckon/ QuickBooks. We are Xero certified accountants and are members of both MYOB and Reckon/QuickBooks “Professional Partners” programs.

Xero is an online software package, which basically means that it is accessed via the internet. Xero offers the following benefits:

  • See your cash flow in real time
  • Automatically import and code your bank transactions
  • Create and send invoices automatically and get paid online
  • A wide range of powerful add-ons are available to further enhance your software, if required.

Xero is powerful software and offers a number of extra features that are currently not been offered by MYOB and Reckon.

Xero is aware that the public are concerned about online security and have therefore developed a system which utilises the same security that banks use.

Xero is charged on a monthly subscription basis instead of an upfront fee for a product licence.

FAQs

Why have a I received two annual fee invoices for my ASIC registration?

One fee is directly from ASIC. This is the annual review fee that keeps the company registered with ASIC. The second annual fee is charged by AWT Accountants to cover our services for acting as the registered agent for your entity.

I no longer use my company. Why do I need to pay annual fees for ASIC registration?

As long as you wish to keep the company name, you must pay the annual ASIC registration fees to ensure that the company remains registered and valid. As such, you may resume trading or using the company again in the future if you choose.

If you are sure that you no longer require the company then you may opt to voluntarily deregister the company. Once deregistration is finalised, you will no longer be charged the annual fees or have any responsibility to maintain details with ASIC for this entity.

Is a business name the same as a company name?

It is not. A company is a registered Australian private company with ASIC and requires certain criteria to be met in order to maintain its validity and registration. No one can register the same name and cannot trade directly under the company name.

A business name is also registered with ASIC and can be held by anyone with an ABN, i.e. an individual, a trust, a company or a partnership, and the business name allows that ABN holder to trade as the business name. For example, Debbie Bingham (ABN holder) trading as “Debbie’s Cards & Stamps” (the business name) or Bingham Pty Ltd (ASIC registered company) trading as “Debbie B” (trading name).

An ABN holder can hold multiple business names.

I want to deregister my company – do I have to pay the upcoming ASIC annual fee?

As the annual review date and due date for payment of the annual fee approaches, you may apply to deregister and therefore forfeit the annual fee if the deregistration application is submitted to ASIC prior to a minimum of 2 weeks before the due payment date.

For example:
Date of annual review: 5 July 2020
Due date for payment: 5 September 2020
Absolute final date deregistration application can be submitted: 21 August 2020
